Grounds Person

Working with a crew to help undertake the pruning or removal of trees and shrubs, operating a range of machinery including chainsaws, woodchipper, mini skid steer, hedge trimmer, and hand tools used for pruning. Assisting in rigging operations by understanding the systems and controlling the rigging ropes and pull lines.

Learning and understanding compartmentalization in trees and correct pruning practices to minimize exposure to decay. Even if you have had some kind of tree climbing and pruning training, it is a job where there are so many different aspects to learn about safety, machinery, and techniques both on the ground and in the canopy; everyone needs to learn through experience.

GROUND OPERATIONS REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of equipment and safe operating procedures
  • Assist climber with rigging operations and saw maintenance
  • Chipper operations and ground saw operations
  • Limbing and bucking of material
  • Must carry valid Drivers License / CDL Preferred
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
  • Good communication skills
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements
  • Traffic control
  • Daily pre-and post-trip inspections/maintenance log

Climbing/ Aerial Lift Arborist

An efficient climbing or aerial arborist takes time, commitment, dedication, listening, and learning from others.

This position will vary significantly from day to day. As a Climbing/Aerial arborist, you will be required to undertake various types of pruning, deadwood removal, crown thinning, crown reduction, specific branch weight reduction, crown raising, and clearance pruning; you will also perform tree removals of all sizes and degrees of difficulty that could incorporate various rigging systems and crane removal. There are also more specialized work specifications such as implementing bracing/supporting systems within the canopy to reduce the risk of failure. As a climbing Arborist, you may be required to lead the crew if you are the most knowledgeable or experienced.

ARBORIST REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven work experience as an arborist.
  • Knowledge of tree biology and tree anatomy.
  • Familiarity with climbing equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate chainsaws/hand saws and mechanical devices.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and at heights.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must carry valid Drivers License / CDL Preferred
  • Pursue ISA Certified Arborist after one year of service
  • Knowledgeable in all ground operations and assist ground operations when available
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements
  • Preflight inspection of lift
